Kurt Bodewig Bundesminister a.D.

President of Deutsche Verkehrswacht

The Deutsche Verkehrswacht e.V. is the oldest and most populous citizens' initiative in germany. Since its founding in 1924 it works to further security and reduce accidents on our streets - nowadays with the help of more than 70,000 volunteers. They inform, consult and train traffic participants of all ages for safer driver and pedestrian behaviour. The Deutsche Verkehrswacht reaches 2.5 million people each year. It's financed through activities and programs of the ministry for transport, infrastructure and housing and membership contributions and sponsoring.

On May 19, 2007 the annual general assembly of the Deutsche Verkehrswacht with an overwhelming majority elected Kurt Bodewig as President. Upon his election, Kurt Bodewig thanked the assembly: "Traffic safety is an issue both for each individual traffic participant and society as a whole. Each death or injury due to traffic accidents is one casualty too much."

The president together with the eight members of his executive committee decide on all constitutive matters. Moreover they support and engage in the development and implementation of federal programs for traffic safety, establish permanent workshops and are responsible for all financial, organisational and staff business. As well as representation both internally and externally, the president seeks cooperation with other organisations and interest groups as well as industry partners for the mission of the Deutsche Verkehrswacht.
